"I voted in favour of the European Parliament Resolution on the proposal amending Council Regulation (EC) No 1215/2009 introducing exceptional trade measures for countries and territories participating in or linked to the European Union’s Stabilisation and Association process. The key aim of these measures is to revitalise the Western Balkan economies through providing privileged access to the EU market. Given that the economic preferences introduced by this regulation support the process of transition and reform in this region and that Regulation (EC) No 1215/2009 expired on 31 December 2010, I think that, during the current crisis, extending its validity until 31 December 2015 is a suitable step for supporting economic development and stability in the Western Balkans. This means that products from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro or Serbia will continue to benefit from the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 1215/2009 in the cases specifically mentioned. In order to guarantee that the EU can meet its international obligations, the preferences included in this regulation ought to be conditional upon continuing or renewing the current exemption obtained by the EU from its obligations within the World Trade Organisation."@en1
