"The Stockholm Programme for ‘an open and secure Europe, serving and protecting citizens’, highlights trafficking in arms as one of the illegal activities that continue to challenge the internal security of the EU, and the Union should therefore continue to promote the ratification of international conventions (and their protocols), in particular, those developed under the auspices of the United Nations. I welcomed this proposal because the specific Union action is needed to complete the process of transposition into Union legislation of the provisions of the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime, otherwise known as the UN Firearms Protocol or UNFP."@en1
