"The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) should respond effectively to the crisis and refocus its strategy in view of the scale of the impact which the crisis has had in the area in which the Bank operates. I consider that the capital increase proposed by the EBRD is absolutely necessary in order to mitigate the impact of the crisis. This will enable the EBRD to maintain a high level of activity and to contribute, together with other European or national organisations and institutions, to economic recovery in its area of activity.
Estimates show that, by increasing its capital, the EBRD will generate an annual business volume of approximately EUR 9 billion in 2011 and 2012 and approximately EUR 8.5 billion per year up to 2015. I thus believe that, given the role the EU plays in governing the EBRD, it should subscribe to new shares in order to achieve the Community’s objectives."@en1
