"The external mandate of the European Investment Bank (EIB) has been jointly decided by the European Parliament and the European Council since 2009. It expires in October 2011. However, a Commission proposal suggests its extension until 2013. I am pleased to see that the negotiations between the various institutions have had a positive outcome, with a significant increase in the guarantees offered to the EIB by the European Union. We hope now that these funds will be used effectively and will contribute to escaping the crisis."@en1
