lpv:translated text	"Madam President, European consumers’ confidence in the financial system has been severely tested in the last few months, and the Belgian case is clear evidence of this. I am convinced that the system of compensating the potential losses of consumers in the event of bankruptcy of financial institutions or insurance companies, together with insurance guarantee schemes, could make a precious contribution to reducing the risks of policyholders and beneficiaries. I voted in favour of this report. However, I would like to emphasise that, until now, European consumers have not had access to sufficient information in cases of insurance company insolvency. This information must be easily accessible, comprehensive and comprehensible, but, above all, consumers must be clearly told which authority they can apply to should they need to claim compensation."@en1
