"Madam President, I have chosen to speak about the Yulia Tymoshenko case under the one-minute procedure as a huge number of my colleagues requested the floor during the previous debate. The illegal sentence passed yesterday on Yulia Tymoshenko confirms that a politically inspired lawsuit was brought against her. What is even clearer is that the aim is to remove the former prime minister from the political scene once and for all. The trial lacked transparency and was not based on genuine evidence. European diplomats were banned from entering the courtroom. In these circumstances, the government in Kiev is no longer credible when it declares its desire to cooperate with the EU. This will definitely have repercussions for the signing of the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine. Good relations with the EU do not just mean visa liberalisation or facilitating trade. They mean, above all, respect for the principles of democracy and the rule of law on which the Eastern Partnership, which Ukraine is part of, is founded."@en1
