"Madam President, massive recapitalisation is currently under way, only a few months after the vast majority of European banks passed stress tests with flying colours. One of these – Dexia – was even ranked in 12th place, and its managing director received a EUR 600 000 bonus. It turns out that it was all lies! For the second time in the space of three years, Dexia is asking to be bailed out with European taxpayers’ money. We must have a clear picture of how lenient we have been with the financial system, and how this has, in all honesty, fully justified the outrage of those protesting from New York to Lisbon, from Athens to Madrid. They may not know much about financial markets, but they have something vital: a thirst for justice."@en1
