"Madam President, Commissioner, if my understanding of our discussion is correct, all the political groups agree with what the Commissioner has said. This means that, on the one hand, the European Parliament categorically condemns Yulia Tymoshenko’s trial and the situation in which she has found herself. On the other hand, we also support and are continuing our efforts to bring Ukraine closer to European structures, as our attempt to sign the association agreement will demonstrate, and as I understand it, we have a consensus in the House on this. At the same time, however, in my opinion, our consensus should go further. We should send a clear message to Kiev that we will not accept such treatment of the opposition. If Ukraine is serious about integration with the EU, such practices must not take place, since the issue of EU-Ukraine integration is more important than instances of political incompetence and judicial partiality."@en1
