"Mr President, the European Council meeting will surely be dominated by the current euro area crisis. Although the Union faces many challenges and problems, the crisis, because of its appalling social impact, is undoubtedly the greatest. We have already had many debates in this plenary regarding the concrete steps that must be taken to resolve the crisis. I would therefore like to say that the European institutions must clearly take a much more aggressive standpoint and position. Gradual, considered and unanimous decision making must give way to a new approach in a time of crisis, otherwise there is a risk of collapse. We need new, functional, ambitious and genuine solutions – common European solutions. In my opinion, this is the greatest and most fundamental task of the EU Heads of State in the forthcoming summit. The October summit may be Europe’s last chance to resolve the crisis."@en1
