"I voted in favour of the European Parliament resolution on the situation in Palestine. Ireland has always been committed to upholding the UN Charter and has long been an advocate of Palestine’s attempts to become a sovereign, independent nation within borders based on those of 1967. The EU has repeatedly confirmed its support for the two-state solution with the State of Israel and an independent State of Palestine. The recognition of statehood for Palestine would give its people dignity and support in their ongoing struggle to achieve their right to self-determination. It is imperative that a resolution is reached, particularly in the context of the Arab Spring."@en1
