"Mr President, on behalf of all the co-investors, I sincerely thank you for your support. This sends out an important message, namely, that we understand the plight of a relatively small group of people who have been marked for life by violent events linked to war or terrorism.
The written declaration is a collaborative effort by us and national organisations of war-disabled civilians from across Europe. We have collected almost 400 signatures and I am particularly pleased that we were also joined by the leaders of Parliament’s three largest political groups.
However, I have to say that, despite becoming a member of the European Parliament seven years ago, I have only just learnt that quite a few members, and even entire national delegations, do not sign written declarations as a matter of principle. I mean, any declarations at all. I find it bizarre that a section of this House systematically rejects one of our important political instruments."@en1
