"Mr President, the use of body scanners has undoubted benefits and may contribute to greater aviation safety. One of the positive factors is that they detect more than just metal items. This is an advantage at the moment, when potential weapons consist of components made from different materials.
The scanning method must, however, be acceptable in terms of protecting the privacy of the travelling public. Only schematic views should be available, and any data obtained in this way must be destroyed immediately after the person has passed through the security check. It is also important to exclude any form of radiation or effects threatening passenger health. The scanning itself should take the form of random selection, and any refusal should not automatically lead to suspicion. However, any passenger refusing a check must be subjected to an alternative form of security check ensuring an equal level of security."@en1
