"Mr Simpson, you trot out that old canard that those of us who are concerned about privacy are somehow not interested in security. But what I think many of us in this debate are saying is that it is not necessary to choose between the two. We know that there is available technology – which the Commission has failed to support – that would better ensure privacy, in the shape of stick-figure machines.
Do you accept that it is possible to reconcile security and privacy? In your capacity as Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, will you try and advance that, instead of trying to trade off security against privacy and saying that those of us who are perhaps on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs do not care about security? Because, believe me, we do care about security, and we fly as well."@en1
