"Madam President, CO
policy in the European Union is crystal clear, including the policy for vulnerable sectors. What is at issue is the fact that the costs which the electricity sector is able to pass on to energy-intensive sectors – such as steel, chemicals and aluminium – are a genuine threat to the competitive position of the companies concerned. The problem therefore lies with the passing on of the indirect costs associated with the electricity sector to high users.
What we need, Commissioner, is good information, information that covers the whole of Europe, so that you will also be able to apply Article 10 – which we have not introduced for nothing – right across Europe, because we cannot again damage the level playing field for companies in Europe. Quick action is required.
Secondly, I have another question. What impact does Germany’s decision to abandon nuclear power have on the rising costs faced by energy-intensive sectors in Germany? Could you give me some information on this subject?"@en1
