"Mr President, the sustainable development summit in Rio must provide solutions for developing a global green economy which is efficient in terms of resource consumption and will help meet the Millennium Development Goals. Organic farming is needed, which is able to provide food for all the planet’s inhabitants. In this context, I wish to point out the importance of universal access to drinking water, which is a scarce resource.
We must also encourage the use of every low-carbon energy source and of renewable energy sources, not to mention the implementation of measures for increasing energy efficiency in the transport sector, agriculture, industry and housing. These measures will not only provide affordable prices for electricity, but will also enhance energy security. In order to achieve the objectives for providing consumers with affordable energy and climate change targets, we need to keep all the low-carbon energy sources.
Lastly, the development summit should ensure universal access to education and health care services. This action must be promoted."@en1
