"Mr President, yes, it takes the biscuit, as we used to say in my village, when I see in our House today the Commissioner, the Polish Presidency, and all the Members, whatever side they sit on, in full agreement on the scandalous and unworthy nature of this debate on the scheme for food distribution to the most deprived persons in the Union (PEAD). This decision is absolutely outrageous and appalling. This challenge is entirely irresponsible on the part of the six Member States blocking or, one could perhaps say, unblocking the programme at this moment. Most importantly, it is a political signal that could prove fatal to what we are trying to build. Therefore, like Mr Tarabella, I solemnly call on the Members, all of whom are in agreement, our German, British, Swedish, Danish, Dutch and Czech fellow Members, to put pressure on their governments to put an end to this situation, which is unworthy of the European Union. We must not send this political signal that could prove fatal to it."@en1
