"It seems to have become the rule that major issues such as the basic values of the EU in the UN are slipped on to the agenda of the parliamentary part-sessions at the last moment. The draft motion for a resolution demanding the unconditional transposition of so-called 'new' human rights, which sexual orientation and gender identity are deemed to be, into all aspects of EU foreign policy has only been available in one language. Only one spokesman from each political group has been able to speak on the matter. This makes it hard to shake off a sense that someone is trying to obstruct legitimate debate on these issues. That is a pity. It also angers me that any expression of doubt as to whether pigeon-holing groups of people in society at large on the basis of their sexual orientation or identity is the right way to go is automatically pilloried as homophobia, transphobia or discrimination. Human rights policy should be inclusive. That is why I voted against the tabled resolution."@en1
