"Human rights are one of the ethical and legal pillars of the European Union. At all times, it has argued and worked in favour of their respect, promotion and protection. Those efforts should continue. However, it is also vital to remember and protect the indivisibility of human rights. They have to apply to everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or gender identity. Efforts in that area are increasing in major international organisations, and the EU was duty-bound to affirm its commitment to the protection of human rights for all. Violations of those rights, through discriminatory practices or acts of violence, should end as soon as possible. The EU should establish an open, respectful dialogue both within its territory and as part of its relations with third countries. I therefore welcome the adoption of this motion for a resolution in the European Parliament plenary sitting."@en1
