"The European Union is so quick to lecture on human rights, but it needs to start by respecting the universal principle of equal rights. This joint resolution has the merit of recalling that fact, and of calling for respect in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Nothing should be able to challenge the right of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to decent work on equal terms with all other workers. Nothing should be able to challenge people’s equality in all civil unions and their ensuing rights, or their right to medical treatment and social security. To do so would mean denying equality between citizens, which is the very foundation of democracy."@en1
