"Integrated economic governance, linking the action of the EU institutions with national authorities as part of a network, is vital in order to correct macroeconomic imbalances in the euro area. Given the existence of a shared monetary area, failure on the part of one of the Member States to comply with the common regulatory framework will have repercussions on the situation of all the others, leading to the need for sanctions which ensure that the entire area works properly. Moreover, it is impossible to dispense with a secure basis for decision making, based on reliable data on the situation of the EU economy. This means that there is a need to promote accurate statistics that act as an aid to policy makers."@en1
