The continuing and deepening crisis demonstrates very clearly that the existing model of EU governance is unable to react to complex situations and mobilise the political will to adopt decisions that may be radical but which are unavoidable. The only way for us to remain a Union of solidarity and unity is to review in principle the entire EU governance model. The Commission must become the body that draws up common guidelines on economic governance and has all the powers to monitor the economies of the Member States. Without a clear economic governance structure, the economic governance and coordination measures proposed will not lead to greater economic integration and the coordination of Member State economies or the monitoring of financial markets."@en1
