"Mr President, Mr Daul said, quite rightly in my opinion, that after this crisis nothing is likely to be the same. The debt crisis will probably alter Europe’s status if no solutions to it are found in the future. Let me give you an example. Until now, Europe has been putting pressure on China to implement human rights and the rule of law. Now it would appear that China is starting to put pressure on Europe to acknowledge, for example, its market economy status. In the future, that might lead China to put pressure on Europe to accept mediocre environmental norms and a low level of consumer protection. That is why it is absolutely important for Europe’s future status in the world to be free of this debt crisis. For that reason, all the efforts that you, Mr Barroso, have proposed are very important and deserve our respect."@en1
