"I voted in favour of this document. Globally, no other natural hazard over the past century has proved more destructive to property or cost more human lives than floods, despite the billions of dollars spent on flood management. There was an increase in the frequency of serious floods throughout the second half of the 20th century, and flooding will prove to be a critical issue in the coming decades. In order to guarantee a reliable supply of water during droughts and prevent excessive water during periods of flooding, storage methods need to be improved. Rethinking the management of freshwater resources, in the context of climate change, is undoubtedly a key challenge facing the world. I agree that it is essential to adopt a multi-pronged flood strategy as a matter of urgency in regions where there is a critical threat of floods and to ensure balanced investment in demand-side management measures, land management, improved water capture and storage methods."@en1
