Between 2001 and 2009, there was a 36% reduction in the number of road deaths in the EU. The Third European Road Safety Action Programme 2001-2010 was instrumental in bringing about that fall. Since 2001, almost 80 000 lives have been saved as a result of the progress made. As such, I voted for this report, in which a series of complementary measures have been tabled with a view to improving road safety in the EU."@en1
