"I voted for this report. The European Schools were set up to ensure that the children of the European institutions’ staff – who are required to live and work abroad, in a different cultural environment – have access to education in their mother tongue, so that these children can be reintegrated into a school in their country of origin at any time. These schools are therefore a necessity and not a luxury. It should be borne in mind that education is free in all the Member States. The institutions’ staff have no other option than to enrol their children in these schools if they want them to be taught in their mother tongue."@en1
