"Madam President, one of the issues we are considering today is how to assist developing countries in addressing food security challenges and, to add to what my colleagues have said, on the one hand, we are designing policies – today we are debating Ms Zimmer’s excellent report, for which we thank her, and we have heard from the Commission about its overall plans and initiatives – while, on the other hand, the Commission issued a communication on 10 May in which it stated that it was considering cutting the countries which enjoy the scheme of generalised tariff preferences by over half.
I understand fully the point of that communication and I have examined it. However, I should like the Commission to answer this question: how do these Commission communications fit in with our commitment to increasing aid to developing countries?"@en1
