"Madam President, the euro crisis is becoming alarmingly more acute and the steps taken so far have not succeeded in easing the pressure on the single currency. It is crucial that the European Union show clear common sense in the decisions ahead. In this context, the decision as to which projects are to be given priority status in the revised central Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) will reveal to what extent we are on the right road out of the crisis. The Mediterranean Corridor is a vital infrastructure for the future of the Union, and excluding it from European transport priorities would be a clear indication that institutional actions in the EU are lacking consistency. Nobody would understand these decisions being based on anything other than viability, efficiency and productivity, which are the criteria endorsing the Mediterranean Corridor as a priority. Only decisions that are wise, reasoned and economically sound will enable us to reassert confidence in the future of the Union and the euro."@en1
