The purpose of the decision is to allocate EUR 4.5 billion to research and innovation in agriculture. This is a timely and welcome decision as the agri-food sector and agricultural production need support from applied research and innovation. We have on the agenda, still this evening, the report on supporting developing countries in their efforts to address the challenges relating to food security. Research and innovation in the agricultural sector undoubtedly provide a suitable response for tackling these challenges as well."@en1
