lpv:translated text	"Mr President, more than 70% of European citizens regard corruption as a major problem in their own country, according to the latest Eurobarometer poll. It is therefore our duty to take the appropriate measures to address these concerns. This means that not only is a united approach required at EU level, but also sustained political commitment. I welcome the general anticorruption package presented by the European Commission, as well as the resolution introduced by my colleague Ms Macovei. In Romania, a lack of knowledge of procedures has resulted in a series of irregularities in the management of European funds. This is why I think that, apart from the monitoring and assessment measures, particular attention needs to be given not only to selecting and training officials, but also to informing the public, especially at local level. I hope that the general anticorruption report submitted by the Commission in 2013 will be objective and identify best practices for fighting corruption."@en1
