"Mr President, I will be brief. I wanted to say something earlier on regarding the principle behind this blue-card procedure. I do not have the Rules of Procedure to hand, but I find it slightly regrettable that the blue card has become a sort of justification for confrontations that no longer have much to do with the speeches made here. This is very much the case in the heated debates we are having, particularly concerning the Middle East. It seems to me that the point of the blue card is to respond to points made in our speeches. It should not turn into a kind of interrogation, overall inquisition or general argument. This is a trivial point, but each time I take the floor in this House, Ms Kiil-Nielsen has something to say. As regards the use of the term ‘unilateral’, this simply means that we are talking about a negotiated solution. This seems straightforward to me. I did explain this. I had one minute and thirty seconds allocated for that and it is not up to me to justify all the settlements. I have already referred Ms Kiil-Nielsen … May I at least answer the questions that were put to me? I do not know how much time has been allotted to me, but I am not going to take less time to answer the question than it took to ask it."@en1
