Of those affected, 20 million are children, and having a job is in itself no guarantee of secure living standards in the EU: 8% of those in employment are at risk of poverty. The motion for a resolution from the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs puts forward proposals for implementing the EU 2020 strategy, one of the objectives of which is to reduce the number of people affected by poverty and social exclusion by at least 20 million by 2020.
