"It is almost 10 years since the Doha Round talks began, and we have to acknowledge that they will not be completed during the eighth Ministerial Conference in December. There has been a stalemate since 2008. Nonetheless, the Doha objectives remain very topical: reducing subsidies that encourage overfishing, establishing rules for agricultural subsidies that distort trade, eliminating export subsidies, reducing customs duties on manufactured goods, simplifying customs procedures, improving market access for dynamic service sectors and, above all, ensuring that least developed countries (LDCs) are better integrated into the trade system. As Pascal Lamy has very rightly said, if we want to succeed, we will need to demonstrate political courage and pragmatism. The burning questions for LDCs, such as cotton and rules of origin, need to be addressed without further ado."@en1
