"Commissioners, fine words indeed at a time when, in Greece, the representatives in the Troika, including the Commission representative, are exerting pressure and demanding the abolition of collective agreements, in order to bring about greater flexibility on the market. This will be a disaster, due in part to the structure of the Greek economy. The European trade unions are accusing you of interfering to the detriment of the workers. When I asked Mr Andor, he replied that collective agreements are a matter of national law.
My question, therefore, is this: does the Commissioner stand by his statement that collective agreements are a matter of national law? Secondly, if so, in what capacity is the Commission representative in the Troika pushing for the abolition of collective agreements? As a representative of the Commission or as a representative of Greece’s creditors?"@en1
