The recent oil well disaster prompted all those involved in the exploration and extraction of offshore oil and gas to reassess the safety of their industry. I agree that we must develop a rigorous safety culture, engaging the offshore workforce in health and safety initiatives, carry out robust training for disaster management scenarios, draw up site-specific contingency plans and ensure through appropriate regulation that operators have sufficient financial resources to provide compensation for any damage done."@en1
