"Increased volatility and large price variations have been a recent feature of the raw material markets. Raw material prices have risen sharply in recent years and have reached record levels for some products, making life very difficult for European industries.
I think that the European raw materials strategy must be aimed at ensuring the superiority and competitiveness of the European Union’s economies. Unfortunately, the European Union is largely dependent on imports and, in the period ahead, we will need to focus on making the ways that raw materials are used more innovative. Therefore, by leveraging our research, development and innovation potential, the challenge posed by raw materials can be turned into an opportunity to revitalise Europe’s industrial power."@en1
