"I voted in favour of this report because European industry is facing an increasingly difficult situation with regard to the supply of raw materials. European Union Member States lack many of the raw materials they require and are therefore forced to import them from other countries. It is very important for the European Union to launch partnerships with countries in Eastern Europe, South America or Asia which have useful raw materials or minerals.
It is also expected that in future, a partnership will be formed with China, because it controls 97% of global production of rare earth elements and severely restricts their export to other countries. These resources are extremely important for moving to a low carbon economy and reducing climate change in the future. In order to do this, the European Union must develop a strategy outlining the actions for the most important and essential raw materials and improving relations with resource-rich countries."@en1
