"The Galileo European satellite navigation programme is, without doubt, ambitious and important. However, the provision of sensitive government services to users, even if they are strictly authorised, requires a strong legal framework and a particularly high level of security. Given that certain services may be politically and strategically sensitive, any concessions will incite particular interest on the part of Greece. It is imperative that information should be provided by the Member States on a voluntary basis, subject to strict rules and supervision. The Commission proposal and this report by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy have stayed within those limits, which is why I voted in favour of the report."@en1
