"Over the course of almost six decades of existence, the European Union’s name has changed: European Economic Community, European Community and European Union. In the same way as the name has changed, many adopted regulations and directives have become dated, especially taking into account the breakneck scientific and technological changes we have witnessed over the last few decades. This report, drafted by our fellow Member, Mr Moreira, tables a proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on repealing certain obsolete Council acts: temporary acts that have exhausted their effects, content that has been taken up by successive acts or resulted from a subsequently repealed international agreement, interim instruments, measures linked to the accession of new Member States, etc. I therefore welcome this proposal, which aims to ‘clean up’ certain European laws that are out of step with reality and is in fulfilment of the interinstitutional agreement on better law making, which, in the name of transparency and the certainty of Union law, recommends their repeal, with a view to ‘more clarity and legal certainty for the Union’s citizens and institutions’."@en1
