"I voted for this resolution on repealing of certain legal acts that have become obsolete. It concerns a number of acts which were adopted over the last decades, have exhausted all their effects, but remain technically in force. They have become obsolete because of their temporary character or because their content has been taken up by successive acts. Several measures linked to the accession of new Member States provided for transitory measures directly following the time of their accession, and by now have become obsolete. A number of legal acts are repealed with the current proposal, which is based on interinstitutional agreement 2003C321/1 on better law making. This agreement targets the simplifying and reducing of the volume of legislation (point 35). According to the agreement, legislation will be updated and condensed, inter alia, through the repeal of acts which are no longer applied and through the codification or recasting of other acts."@en1
