lpv:translated text	"Mr President, this own-initiative report welcomes the Commission’s Green Paper on audit policy. The financial crisis has shown us that auditors can actually play a key role in enhancing supervision, particularly when it comes to the financial institutions. I am therefore pleased that we have sent a very clear message today that there is a need to increase the transparency and quality of the work of audit firms. That is absolutely crucial in order to improve both the quality of the financial market and access to finance. We call on the Commission to put forward proposals with a view to ensuring the independence of the auditors while, naturally, at the same time, maintaining the quality, accuracy and meticulousness of the auditors."@en1
