"Madam President, SMEs make a fundamental contribution to economic growth, social cohesion and job creation. However, one distinctive feature of the European business environment is the inequality between men and women. The latter account for only 30% of all entrepreneurs in Europe. This discrimination is detrimental to both women and the economy.
Europe must have programmes available to encourage and support women in business. I am in favour of creating an agency for developing businesses set up and run by women. I think that a European database needs to be set up to implement a proper policy for women entrepreneurs. The business potential offered by women must be utilised more effectively at local, regional, national and European level."@en1
