"Mr President, I think that the European Union needs an effective raw materials strategy if it wishes to remain competitive in the industrial sector. One of the key factors for achieving this is also coherent, effective resource diplomacy. This is a particularly important matter as the raw materials supply has an impact on a wide range of EU policies.
I welcome the fact that the report emphasises the importance of diplomacy tools and features specific suggestions for cooperation with external partners, for example, the provision of support to developing countries, including the transfer of scientific and legal knowledge.
At the same time, I should mention the importance of coordination between the EU’s external policy in this area and that of Member States. I therefore hope that the EEAS will prove to be an important additional tool in the dialogue the EU conducts with other players on the issue of raw materials."@en1
