"Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, it is clear that reducing the consumption of raw materials has many advantages, first and foremost from an environmental perspective: more recycling means less waste and less damage caused to nature. On the other hand, a serious industrial policy must work at a global, not just at a European, level; it is therefore important for measures to be taken at the highest international levels, because this has to be a worldwide effort.
To conclude, Commissioner, I call on you to exert some pressure – this initiative by the President of Parliament, Mr Buzek, to create a single energy market has stalled somewhat – because this is the only way to ensure a secure supply and guaranteed costs for our businesses and citizens. Furthermore, this would also lead to substantial savings of raw materials and essential resources for the economy, industry and our society."@en1
