"Mr President, the rapidly growing global demand for raw materials is fraught with various economic risks, ranging from unpredictable prices to competitiveness. It is therefore necessary to use this opportunity to stress the environmental and economic efficiency of manipulating and exploiting the European raw material base. The entire economic chain should lead towards an efficient use of the raw material base, because no material is here forever. This is why we should emphasise high environmental efficiency such that resources are recycled to be used several times over. I especially want to emphasise the importance of recycling. I therefore support the Commission’s challenge to turn the challenge into an opportunity and to create a long-term European Raw Materials Road Map to 2050."@en1
