"I voted in favour of the report on progress on mine action. It is inconceivable that, in 2011, we are still talking about mines and young people losing their lives for no reason. In 2009, the number of deaths from mines was cut to less than 4 000 (compared with 18 000 in 1999); however, despite the reduction in the number of victims, it is still unacceptable and should be reduced to the minimum. Survey, detection and clearance of mines is an issue of the utmost importance and priority and should be resolved immediately, so that we do not have to keep talking about such a waste of human life."@en1
