"I believe the right to food to be the alienable right of each and every human being. I believe that this right should be guaranteed through a fair economic model, creating the necessary conditions for everyone to satisfy their fundamental needs. However, since the economic model followed in Europe pushes 80 million citizens into poverty, it is essential to guarantee this right by other means, namely through food aid. Reducing food aid from EUR 500 million to EUR 113 million, especially at a time of economic and social crisis, is utterly disgraceful. Many families will be left with no food. It is unacceptable that the European Union saves by cutting off support to the poorest of the poor, thus drastically increasing social inequality. I therefore voted in favour of this motion for a resolution."@en1
