lpv:translated text	"On the occasion of the adoption of this resolution, Parliament has reaffirmed its support for Schengen: the free movement of people throughout the EU is one of the four fundamental freedoms, and one of the fundamental of the Community in which we live. That is why we are now sceptical about attempts being made to bring these agreements back into question and the introduction of a safeguard clause to reintroduce border controls. The attitude of certain countries during the Lampedusa crisis stirred up fear and led nations to look in on themselves with one Member State even bringing back border controls. Schengen must be respected, and the issue of the safeguard clause must be examined with a great deal of attention and, most importantly, any management of Schengen must be at European level. It is outrageous to see immigration solely in terms of threat. Zero immigration is outrageously utopian; migration, whether legal or illegal, has always existed. If flows of people have to be managed, this must be done as humanely as possible."@en1
