lpv:translated text	"On the basis of the Commission proposals, this report proposes that the legislative provisions currently in force be adapted because a substantial decline has been recorded in the number of cases – 2 167 in 2001 to 67 in 2009 – resulting from the application of a series of legislative measures, and with a view to eradicating Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies. The responsibilities and requirements put forward in the proposal are justified and adequate. The importance of maintaining the tough rules on prohibition of foodstuffs should be stressed. Some of the causes of this epidemic, as well as other problems of food security and public health, result from the use of intensive production models rather than extensive production models, which are primarily concerned with consumer health, environmental security and animal welfare. I voted in favour of this report as I agree with the balanced measures proposed, without losing sight of regular controls and preventative measures."@en1
