"The joint motion for a resolution on the preparation of the Commission work programme for 2012 is a step in the right direction. The forthcoming work programme should definitely be used to promote and to achieve the goals and values of the European Union. It is essential that the Europe 2020 agenda is implemented immediately. To do this, we need to have a detailed and objective discussion on the Multiannual Financial Framework and to come to an agreement about it. This will include debates on the reform of expenditure and revenues. A conference on own resources involving the Members of the European Parliament and the representatives of the national parliaments is being called for and we must support this call. The paragraph on climate strategy covers the issue of sustainable growth. On the one hand, this deals with ways of combating climate change. On the other hand, it is inevitable that we will have to invest in renewable energies so that we can successfully address the problem of ongoing unemployment, in particular, among young people. Energy security is another aspect of the resolution. Security in this context refers not only to learning lessons from Fukushima, but also to our independence in terms of energy. Finally, I welcome the initiatives on reconciling work and family life. The continuing pay inequalities between men and women who do the same jobs must finally be consigned to the dustbin of history."@en1
