"Mr President, I belong to the group of Members satisfied with the outcome of the compromise that has been reached. I would like to extend my best wishes to the rapporteur and to thank her for the outcome of her work.
Much has been said here about country of origin, particularly in the case of fresh meat. The fact that we can be Europeans, but our European-ness disappears the minute we need to buy a piece of meat, seemed rather comical to me. Personally, I do not have a problem with this, however, and I know that it is also a frequent demand of our citizens.
Some of the proposals here assumed that every citizen of the EU was a blockhead in need of constant coddling and lecturing. I am pleased we have agreed on an acceptable font size. It will clearly have to be sufficient in relation to the possibilities offered by the size of the packaging and what is possible for our consumers. I also believe that some of the drastic changes will ultimately be a burden to consumers, but that was to be expected. I consider the result to be reasonably successful, and I will vote in favour of it."@en1
